Choosing the right college for YOU!

There are so many choices when it comes to choosing a college. How do you choose where would be best for you based off of that 2 hour campus tour?

How-to-choose-a-college

During my junior and senior year my whole mindset was focused on choosing the PERFECT college for me! I started researching until my mind was overloaded with information! I could have told you anything you wanted to know about the colleges that I was thinking about applying to.

Choosing a college is a stressful time, but I promise you that no matter what school you choose, it’s all about what you make it. Yes, sometimes people will transfer but, even if you don’t end up going to your number one college, it is all about what you make it!

Everyone asks you, “what do you think you want to do when you’re older?” I still do not know EXACTLY what I want to do, so I think when looking at schools have a few majors in mind that you think you might enjoy!

I applied to 13 schools. At the time of looking at schools I thought I wanted to major in fashion merchandising, but at orientation two months before leaving for school I changed my mind, and decided I would enter college as an “Exploratory” major, which at Kent State is “Undecided”.

I think it is really important to apply to schools with a large amount of major/minor selections. No, this does not mean that you have to go to a large school, but it is always important to have options!

My number ONE piece of advice about choosing a school is not choose one because your best friend/boyfriend/girlfriend is going there. I know so many people who regret the choice of college they made because they went to the college their best friend went to AND they roomed with them. If you are going to the same college as your best friend, try to room with someone new. Having a roommate that you don’t know can teach you so much! It will teach you a lot about yourself too.

Choosing a school is overwhelming, but do not worry, college is one of the best times of your life. Wherever you choose to go, it will open doors for you that you didn’t even know were available to you!
