An Easy 4 Step DIY For Your Dorm

I live in an apartment-style dorm.  I decorated a little in the beginning of the school year, but last night (at 2 a.m. of course) I realized I had a lot of things with my monogram on it, but, nothing with any sayings on it! I came across a quote on Twitter that I absolutely fell in love with- so it had to be painted and put on my walls! 🙂

First Step:
I used this owl-shaped piece of wood that I bought at Michael’s craft store over the summer that I hadn’t done anything with. Then, I painted it with two coats of white paint.

Second Step:
I decided to use the quote: “She needed a hero so that’s what she became” because a little girl power is ALWAYS needed!  I used my favorite gold paint that I also bought at Michaels’s craft store. Make sure that when you’re using a gold paint, to buy the metallic gold paint! It will shimmer, and look GORG (just like all of you!).

Make sure to go over the words at least twice, so the paint isn’t transparent!

Third Step:
At first, I was thinking I liked the board with just the words, and no bedazzles, but I wouldn’t be Danie without any extras on my crafts! So, I decided to look in my crafting bin for something cute I had to put on it, and I found two pretty fake flowers!

I just magically had two flowers left- so, it was meant to be for this craft! I just hot glued them on, and they stayed perfectly.

Fourth Step:
Now it’s time to hang up your masterpiece! I used a command hook and hung it up in my living room!

I hung it up underneath of one of the many monograms that are in my apartment!

These small things make your dorm room have personality! I would love to see some of your DIYs that are in your dorms!

Thrifty Thursday Halloween Style!

DSCF6490DSCF6491DSCF6495DSCF6496DSCF6499DSCF6501DSCF6507DSCF6503

This past week I asked to be challenged to go out to find certain things while thrifting! One of the challenges was to go out and find a Halloween costume! So, I decided to go out and find a “Home-made” costume and one that was store-made. The items that I bought were only $14. If you were to go out and buy either of these costumes at a Halloween store I promise you will spend over $30. I personally think “Home-made” costumes are always so much cuter and original!

My “Home-made” costume if you couldn’t tell was inspired by Rosie the Riveter! I love her! Plus, her look is simple, and everyone will be able to tell what you are. I did add some of my own clothing in this. But, I bought the things that you also may have to go out to purchase! I bought the jean shirt and the “headband” for my first look! I looked all around Goodwill to see if they had Rosie’s signature red and white polka dotted headband but… I didn’t have any luck. So, I thought outside of the box and went to look in the men’s tie area and bought one that was super close to Rosie’s! Underneath of the jean shirt I just wore a basic V-neck and Jeans with combat boots! I feel like Rosie would wear these two things, especially because they were not the “norm” for women of her time.

Next, for my store bought costume I found this adorable lady bug costume! Please guess how much it was… If you guess $10, then you were correct. I was bummed that Goodwill did not have any antennas. 🙁  But I left the cute red headband on. But, if I were to wear this on Halloween I would go out and buy antennas to complete my look. On the back of the costume there are cute little wings!

I love both of these costumes but, I have to say that I love my Rosie the Riveter one a little bit more! 🙂

I hope you all will think about Thrifting your Halloween costumes this year, I promise it will save you an arm and a leg! I would love to see the costumes that you all find! Please share the pictures with me on Facebook on my page Defining Danie or on Twitter/Instagram @Danieminor13!

Hope you all enjoyed this weeks themed Thrifty Thursday!

Today, while I was walking to class today I was thinking how I really need to update my makeup looks because it is no longer summer! It is the first official day of Fall (even though in Kent, Oh it feels like winter)! Some of the items above are some of my favorite things that I use on the daily during fall! This eye shadow palette is the perfect representation for Fall the colors remind me so much of the colors of Fall, and then you pair it with the brighter lip and BAM you look absolutely perfect!

This week I was challenged to find a Hippie Themed Thrifty Thursday! I was so excited about this. When I think of what a Hippie wears, I think of things that are flowy, colorful, down-to-earth and happy! While I was thrifting I was looking for things that matched that description… it wasn’t easy but I tried! I did not find things that looked Hippie-ish that were colorful but I found this AWESOME shirt that was flowy and had these cute feathers on it! And, guess what! The shirt was only $5! It is from the Goodwill in Crofton, MD. The tank top that you see me wearing is actually attached to the shirt with the feathers, so that saved me an extra $4 at Goodwill today! I also found these super comfy jeans there! They are from Kohl’s! They were only $7.00.

I also stopped by a new thrift store for me today! It was called Thrifty Outlet. It is in Glen Burnie, MD. I found the adorable shoes you see in the photos! Yes, I FOUND SHOES! For everyone who has read my blog in the past has read that I wear a size 11 and it is so difficult for me to find shoes. When I saw them my whole day got better! They really completed my Hippie inspired outfit! Something that also made me happier about the shoes was that they were only $5. They are Bakers brand! I am familiar with their shoe brand but I have not shopped there for shoes for a while so, I went on their website to see if I could find a similar pair of shoes. I found a pair that were priced at $45! Wow, I know… I saved $40!

Finally, the headband. So, like I said before, when I think of a Hippie I think of colorful. That was the last thing my outfit was missing! I thought to myself, what is something that I could add that is not expensive and would add a pop of color? And, it’s this DIY Flower Headband I made! It was so simple. I already had the fake flowers and the twine! If you would like me to post how to make this DIY headband, please comment below or on my Facebook page, DefiningDanie. 🙂

The total price of this outfit was $17! I had so much fun with this themed Thrifty Thursday! Please let me know what you think! I hope everyone is having a great week (but YAY! tomorrow is Friday!).
