Thrifty Thursday: Getting Ready for Vacation!

I cannot believe I have not done a Thrifty Thursday in over two months! To be honest, I had to take a break because at school my closet was overflowing with the awesome deals I was finding! This week I decided I would head over to my favorite consignment store, Oh My Darling in Annapolis, Md. to see what deals they had going on.

They recently posted on Instagram a photo of a few pairs of pineapple earrings and I knew that I had to have these for the summer!

Amy, the owner of Oh My Darling also posted today about a sale she had today if you mentioned you saw it on her Instagram.

Even though I originally went to the store for just the earrings, I knew I would not only be leaving with just one thing… I also found the perfect dress for a trip I have coming up this weekend to the Bahamas!

IMG_2066

The dress is made by Just Be… I tried to find how much the dress was sold for originally, but I was unable to find it. I can tell the dress is made with a quality cotton though, so I am guessing it was definitely sold for more than I bought it. I purchased this dress for $16!

IMG_2078

The lightweight cotton will be perfect for the hot weather in the Bahamas!

Out of the two things I purchased today, I would definitely say the earrings would be my favorite. I am in love with the pineapples. I am currently obsessing over anything pineapple related!

IMG_2046

I also love the earrings because they were made by a local jewelry designer! Here is her information if you are interested in purchasing this pair of earrings or looking to see if she sells something similar:

I left the store today only spending a total of $45!

For all of my Annapolis area readers, Oh My Darling is having their biggest shopping event yet that you will not want to miss! Coming up on June 20, they are hosting an event called The Longest Day, which is raising money for Alzheimer’s awareness.

Leading up to the event, they will be having their #30DaysofDresses fundraiser. For every dress sold from May 21-June 20, Oh My Darling will donate 10 percent of the sale to their Longest Day team. If you go into the store and try on a dress and use the hashtags #30DaysofDresses and #THELONGESTDAY, they will donate $1 to their team.

If this didn’t sound intriguing enough for you… on June 20 if you make a $5 or $10 donation to their team, you will receive an empty Oh My Darling shopping bag, which you can fill with anything you can fit into the bag and receive 10 percent or 20 percent off of the items in the bag!

For more information about the event you can contact Oh My Darling’s owner, Amy Darling at amy@shopohmydarling.com!

It felt so great to thrift again! I am glad that I broke my thrifting drought at Oh My Darling!

Thrifty Thursday: Summer to Fall Bag!

So, Defining Danie reader’s, it’s been a while. I’ve missed you all! School has been more than hectic, which is why I haven’t blogged in what feels like a lifetime.

Look at this amazing purchase that I found. The bag was originally $45 and at Goodwill it was being sold for $17, and then I got the student discount and ended up getting the bag for $15!

9.24.tt4

This week’s Thrifty Thursday is based on a bag I found a few weeks ago that was originally from Target. Orange can go for either summer or fall, but adding this scarf definitely adds more a fall-feel. The bag was brand new and I bought it from Goodwill in Kent, Ohio. Goodwill and Target have a partnership where the Goodwill sells the clothing/accessories not sold during the time that they were being sold in Target so they have another chance to be sold again. The clothing/accessories are sold for a cheaper price than they would be sold in Target.

9.24.tt3

Although the oranges are not the same, the scarf and bag still complement one-another. The bag has more of a coral undertone and the scarf has a darker orange, magenta, yellow and various colors of taupe! I love the scarf, which I got for only $1.00!

9.24.tt2

Take a look inside this bag! It even has the perfect compartment for pencils and lipstick. 😉 And the polka dots are a lovely touch.

9.24.tt1

Incorporating thrifted items into your daily outfits is not hard at all! It was a coincidence that I was actually wearing was thrifted over the summer.

I hope everyone is having a lovely start to fall!

Thirfty Thursday!

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone had a safe holiday this past weekend. This Thursday I found a few amazing pieces that I mixed and matched with pieces of clothing that I already owned!

This outfit is super summery. I paired the coral skirt, which I got for $8, with a navy tank top that I had in my closet! I love pairing these two colors together. I think they work so nicely together.

Adding my favorite black hat to this look gave outfit a whole new look!

I went to Goodwill this morning, just to look around and found this shirt and these pants. I am obsessed with this outfit! It’s like they were made for each other.

The pants were originally $50 from JcPenny! I bought them for $5. I purchased the shirt for $3.50. Togeher this outfit only cost me $8.50. #LiveloveThrifting, right?

I also found this adorable green jacket that is perfect for summer nights or the fall. The jacket was only $3, because I bought it on a Wednesday, which is when my Goodwill provides a student discount!

I am in love with my purchases! I hope my purchases are proving to you that there are a lot of awesome finds!

New Thrifting Store: Blue Boutique!

b1

Who doesn’t love combining fashion and hot deals? My friend Elise and I went last week to blue/ A Goodwill®Boutique / that carries upscale women and men’s clothing. I am in love with this store and have already been back six times!

B2

In the picture above, my friend Elise bought this BCBG jacket for only $15! The prices are hard to beat. The most expensive item in the store is $45, which are the real fur jackets (yes I said REAL FUR)! I bought an adorable Ellen Tracy faux-fur vest for $6.

b6

I also bought the black lace shirt underneath. The shirt with the vest is such a cute combo, and blue has many styles like this. Here are some other cute looks that Elise and I put together (notice the awesome art that is on their walls!):

New Year, New Me? Thrifty Thursday!

The Thrifty Thursday looks this week: A Winter Time Outfit and a Workout Outfit!

 IMG_3995.JPG    IMG_0624

Lets start out with the Winter Time Outfit! For this outfit, the two thrifted items are the jacket and the headband! The jacket cost me $10 and the headband cost me $6. I was kind of upset that the headband cost me that much but, I can understand why it cost so much, it was new! It’s super cute, it is one of those headbands that also covers your ears, which is perfect because at Kent State, it is FREEZING.

The jacket is also perfect. It is fleece lined, and super warm! Today, in Annapolis, the high temperature I believe was 14 degrees, but with the windchill it felt like 2! But, at school I know with the windchill it felt like -18 (I can say that I am not super excited to go back to that weather on Sunday, haha!). If I were to wear this outfit at school, I would definitely have to add gloves and a scarf! Check out the outfit with my heavy duty scarf that I bought off Hautelook.com last year!

IMG_3991.JPG

Jacket- $10 Headband- $6

I completed this outfit with heavy leggings and my new chestnut boots that I bought from Payless for only $39!

So, everyone always makes the New Years Resolution to get fit in the new year, well I started that this summer, but I got a little off track…so I am starting again now!

Workout clothes can be SO expensive, even at places like Target or Marshall’s, so why not thrift them? I thrifted almost everything in this outfit, except my T-shirt that I am wearing underneath of my of jacket.

   IMG_0623    IMG_0628

It motivates me so much to look cute while working out! I bought these workout pants and jacket, which are both Target brand, for only $8 combined! Then, today while I was at Goodwill, I found these Reebok EasyTones for only $10. I was online looking at Reebok’s website to see how much these cost brand new and they range from $69-$99! I saved so much money by buying them from Goodwill.

I know it seems a little weird buying shoes from Goodwill but, I promise you, they have some good finds! You can also wash tennis shoes on delicate in the washing machine.

I bought the jacket previously and added a cute monogram to the front of it. I got that done in Kent, Ohio at Dragonfly, they monogram items for only $5. So, together my jacket was a total of $9…I know, it’s amazing!

I also saw other amazing winter jackets and workout clothes in Goodwill, so go check out your local

thrift store for these items!

I would love to see the items you are thrifting, so please share them with me on Twitter/Instagram @Danieminor13.

Happy New Year!

Lifestyle: Not Washing Your Hair Daily

IMG_3350
So, people always question me, because I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. You do not have to worry, I still shower everyday, I just don’t wash my hair!

Why, you ask? Well, I “trained” my hair. I started training my hair because I had red in my hair and every time I would wash my hair, the red would come out in the shower. I got tired of having to re-dye my hair every 3 weeks, so I decided to basically stop washing my hair. The greatest part about training my hair was that even on the days that I don’t wash my hair, it doesn’t look oily.

Also, there are a lot of health benefits to not washing your hair everyday. Washing your hair everyday dries it out. It is healthy to keep the oils in your hair.

I know I sound crazy, but, I even add oils into my hair. I use Argon Oil every other day in my hair. But, I only put the oil on the ends, because they get so dry!

I dye my hair a lot, so it is really important for me to try and keep it as healthy as can be. Some days, I do like to use dry shampoo, but most of the time I don’t even need it, because the way that I “trained” my hair, it doesn’t even get oily. Another reason I decided to start this training process, was because I have psoriasis, and the more washing I did, the worse the psoriasis became on my scalp.

People do not even know that my hair is unwashed, it is when I tell them that it isn’t, when they start asking me a ton of questions about the training process.

What is the training process?

1. Start only washing your hair every other day, if you’re the type of person who washes it everyday.

2. If you wash your hair every other day, add an extra day in between there, so you go two days without washing it. Use dry shampoo on that second day, but only if it is needed.

3. And continue on from there, just keep adding days in there to stop washing it.

***I will say though, that I have very thick hair, so most people can’t go the whole week without washing it, the average person that does this can only go about 4 days.

Also:

I wash my hair a certain way.

1. I use TRESemmé Shampoo and Conditioner for colored hair.

2. I only use shampoo from my scalp to the part of my hair that reaches the top of my ear. – The shampoo that runs down when rinsing out the shampoo, from your roots to your ends will be washed just from that.

3. I only condition from my ear down. I do not put ANY conditioner on my roots. This is what causes them to become oily, faster. JUST. DON’T. DO. IT.

4. Condition your ends twice! This will help a lot! Especially people with dry hair, like me!
Remember, you do NOT need to be washing your hair everyday! Let me know how the training process goes for you!

XO,

Danie

Thrifty Thursday!!

IMG_3143My Awesome finds this week:

IMG_3144

IMG_3145 IMG_3146 IMG_3147 IMG_3148 IMG_3149

This week, I had the opportunity to going to two different thrift stores for my Thrifty Thursday! I went with my friend Marie! We went to the Goodwill in Akron, Ohio and we also went to Value Discount Outlet, which is also in Akron, Ohio!

The sweater and the ADORABLE Kent State pajama pants are from my stop at Goodwill. For those of you who don’t know, I go to Kent State, so I thought these pajamas were a must-have! 🙂 …And they just so happened to be my size, so of course I “needed” them!

I am always constantly in need of a white cardigan, but I never find one that I like and yesterday I found this Ann Taylor one that was perfect! It was also a great price for Ann Taylor! (Also, check out Ann Taylor’s website, they are having a great sale right now!)  At Goodwill, I spent a total of $5.50! I saved a little money at Goodwill too with my student discount! I also have a Goodwill card that I rack points on. Make sure the next time you’re at your local Goodwill to sign-up for one! They are so worth it. When you reach 100 points (which is so easy for me! LOL), you receive 35% off of your purchase! You get a point per dollar.

At the next stop, Value Discount Outlet, I found some of my favorite things I have ever found while thrifting! I love love love the red shirt with the white flowers! It’s my favorite material to wear.

Then, I found the grey workout pants! They are Champion brand, which is sold at a number of places, but I usually see it at Target!

At Discount stores, they usually have a “Color of the Day.” This means that the color tag that is on your clothing will be 50% off when it is that “Color of the Day.”

Yesterday, at VDO, the color tags of the day were yellow and green! So, you can see that the items that I picked up had yellow tags meaning that the items I bought were all 50% off! At VDO I only spent $11!

A very exciting piece of clothing that I found was:

IMG_3138IMG_3139

This adorable vest is Craft & Barrow brand! Craft & Barrow is sold at Kohl’s!

GUESS WHAT EVERYONE! I took this picture right before I dropped off the vest to get monogramed at The Dragonfly in downtown Kent, Ohio! The Dragonfly (who you should like on Facebook!) will monogram anything your little hearts desire for $5! They have so many color and script choices, it is almost overwhelming! I could sit in there all day and think of the different pairings that you can get!

This time I chose to get a gold monogram! You can see on the tag for this vest that it was $8, but at VDO, green was one of the tags that were 50% off! So, I bought the vest for $4! And then, my monogram was $5! So, I got this customized-monogramed vest for only $9!!!!!!!! YAYAY!

I will post pictures as soon as I get the vest back!

Thanks for checking out my blog!
