NYC Will Always Have My Heart

I cannot believe it, but my NYC summer experience has come to an end. Unbelievable, right?

IMG_3096.JPG

New York City became my home this summer and I feel like I legitimately left a piece of my heart there. When I first arrived in the city, I kept saying “I think I am going to have a great summer but I definitely do not see myself here after graduation.” WELL, I WAS WRONG. This summer my heart grew fonder as the days went on.

From learning the subway to mastering the different areas of Manhattan, to becoming closer with girls in the classes and internship to discovering so many amazing restaurants, my summer in NYC is one I will never forget.

I lived in the Upper West Side, which I always compared to the suburbs of the city. My internship was in the Flatiron District and my classes were in Midtown. I loved my classes and I definitely learned a lot of about myself and what I want out of my future at my internship.

I interned at a fashion PR firm, which was definitely an experience I always dreamed about. For the past three years I have said my dream was to work in fashion PR, but after interning in a fashion PR firm, I learned that I LIKE fashion PR, but I don’t LOVE it. I am so grateful for the experience I had at the agency I interned for. I was able to work at both New York Men’s Day (the opening event for NYFW) and at New York Men’s Fashion Week.

This summer was amazing, and I think one of my absolute favorite things was getting to try all the different trendy foods that were all over Facebook and the internet this summer. For example, Frosé, the roll-up ice cream and I went to the bakery , Union Fare, which sells the rainbow croissants, but they were sold out by the time I got there so I tried their cookies and cream croissant, which was just as fabulous!

Exploring was also amazing. You would think in the eight weeks I was there, I would have been able to do everything I wanted to, but I didn’t. If I did not have class or my internship, I probably could have, but I know that I will definitely have to do the things I wanted to do this summer first as soon as I am back in the city!

IMG_3172

Another thing I loved about being in NYC, everyone wants to come and visit! My sister, Payton and best friend, Amanda came twice, my friend Mary came with Payton and Amanda on their second trip and my friend Erin came up for a weekend trip. The FUNNIEST thing was Erin and I sleeping in my twin sized bed in my dorm room, haha!

IMG_8335

During my friend’s visits we explored all around Manhattan and went to Brooklyn! In Brooklyn, we adventured in Williamsburg and DUMBO, which is in the picture below.

DUMBO: Down Under the Manhattan Brooklyn Overpass

Dumbo was gorgeous! The architecture, the view of the Manhattan Skyline and the view of the Brooklyn bridge are out of this world. The area is located right in the middle of the Manhattan bridge and the Brooklyn bridge.

This summer also included going to Her Conference. Her Conference is a conference hosted by Her Campus, an online magazine for women in college. I am a writer for Her Campus Kent State and I am also in their blogging network! They hosted a kick-off event, hosted by Rebecca Minkoff. I attended the event and had the chance to meet her. I fan-girled so hard! She was so sweet and even signed the inside of the bag I purchased that evening.

I cannot believe all of the things I did within these past eight weeks. These were just a few highlights from my summer. I truly cannot believe this summer is almost over. Summer 2016 is definitely my favorite summer yet!

Join the Monday Mingle!

for the love of fashion

This Friday, I went to the 2nd annual College Town Kent’s For the Love of Fashion, fashion show! It showed all of the 2016 spring trends that all of the stores in downtown Kent, Ohio will have in stock.

Isn’t this such a cute idea? Wait, it gets better…

College Town Kent, which is a business that markets everything that downtown Kent has to offer to the student of Kent State and the Kent community, hosts a competition between all of the sororities at Kent to see which sorority the money from the show will go to from the ticket sales for the show.

This year the sorority that won was Alpha Xi Delta (AXiD)! Their philanthropy is Autism Speaks. Last year, I loved going to this event, and I know that many others did too since Kent State is number two for fashion merchandising and number four for fashion design in the country.

The show opened up with looks form UniversiTEES. They showcased all of the various new Kent State apparel and accessories they are offering.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We could see the models having a great time walking down the runway! There was even some “Dabbing” as you can see in the photo above! My favorite piece from UniversiTEES is the sweatshirt about that says “Home” but the letter O is replaced with the state of Ohio!
CTKFeatured next was Gracylane. The models walked down the runway in all black while featuring all of the latest accessories from brands such as Vera Bradley, Kate Spade and S’well water bottles.

I am definitely need one of the new umbrellas that they were featuring from Vera Bradley’s new collection, because spring in Kent= rain, rain and you guessed it- more rain!

The coolest part of the show was next…

One Love Yoga, a yoga studio and boutique, performed yoga positions down the runway. It was amazing to see the clothing presented in a way that wasn’t just twirling around.

A major trend that was appearing during their time on the runway was tie dye tights! IMG_0878

You go girl! This is amazing, I can only imagine how nervous she was holding this pose in a room full of people.

And finally of the boutiques that were featured was Carnaby Street Style, a London-inspired boutique. The owner, Emma is from England wanted to bring some of her home country to Kent, Ohio.

Their store really featured a ton of pieces that really captivated the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Colored jeans, colored hates and floral dresses rocked the runway!

My favorite look from Carnaby Street Style was this fun duo!

IMG_0907

Every model from the show had their hair done by Rush by Dino Palmeri, my favorite salon in Kent! They also had a spot in the show. They named the top hair trends for 2016 are going to be: soft, sun kissed and natural colored hair!

If you’re looking for a great salon that has great prices, Rush is definitely your place.

After the show, they had a mini boutique where you were able to shop the looks of the show. I left with an awesome burnt orange floppy hat from Carnaby Street Style and a necklace that is handmade from the brand One Million Wonders from One Love Yoga.

I had an amazing time at the show and I am already looking forward to 2017’s show.

Did you go to the show? Please share your experience with me!

I hope you had a Happy Monday

Recap of My Trip to Dublin and London!

..I belong in Europe is all I can say. For two weeks I traveled all throughout Dublin and London. I was there with one of my classes that I took during the semester, Global Advertising and Public Realtions. While visiting, we not only visited the touristy sites, we worked with groups that we were paired with all semester.

My Chi Omega-filled Weekend!

Good morning everyone! This weekend was a jam-packed Chi Omega weekend for me (I am not complaining!). This weekend we had our Family Day brunch and our spring philanthropy event. Chi Omega’s philanthropy is Make-A-Wish Foundation! For my chapter’s event, we did “Chi-O Karaoke”.  At the event, we raised almost $20,000! YES, you read that correctly!

At the Family Day brunch, sisters were recognized for many things. In Chi Omega, we have six purposes that are very special to us. They are:

6 purposes

Within those areas, two sisters were chosen to receive awards within each purpose! I was lucky enough to be chosen as the “High Standards Emerging Leader”! I was so honored to be chosen out of my more then 200 women for this award.

Two years ago, Kent State’s Chi Omega chapter was able to raise enough money for a special little girl named Mackenzie, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. On Saturday, a healthy Mackenzie sang “Let It Go” from Disney’s movie Frozen for all of the Greek Community! It was so inspiring to watch her with such confidence, and know that Chi Omega helped make her a happier during a rough time in her life. Let’s just say when she sang… there was not a dry eye in the house! I was crying like a baby, haha.

The brunch was lovely, and we killed our philanthropy event! I know the news does not always portray Greek Life in the best light, but I promise you there are a lot of positive aspects to it. I am thankful to Chi Omega for some of the lovely ladies that I have met through it!

Here are some pretty photos with some of my beautiful sisters:

Thrifty Thursday… on a Sunday!

My Finds at the Goodwill in Akron, Ohio! This week I went to the Goodwill that is on Waterloo Rd!

Hello Everyone!

I am so sorry for posting my Thrifty Thursday so late! This weekend has been rough. But, have no fear, it is here now!

Let’s start off with the red vest with my monogram. If you read my post last week, you would see that the vest itself only cost me $4! Then, I took it to my favorite monogram shop The Dragonfly in downtown Kent, Oh. The gold thread I chose to get was absolutely perfect for this vest. It really completes it, and it was only $7. YAY! I have already worn this vest three times and it is only Sunday, haha!

Next, are the two button downs! One of my favorite fall looks this year is wearing a button down with a sweater over top with a statement necklace! It is a classic-look! Here’s what I mean, if you’re not sure what I mean:

IMG_3119

I usually wear jeans or leggings and of course some cute boots!

During this trip, I also bought a really pretty frame. I needed one for my certificate I received a couple of weeks ago from my sorority, Chi Omega! The pretty frame was only $2. Frames can get pretty pricey and if you look in Goodwill you will definitely be able to find some awesome frames!

YES YOU DID JUST SEE A FOSSIL PURSE! Guess how much I bought that REAL Fossil purse! $3.40. It was originally marked to be sold for $15.00, but the sales clerk thought that was too expensive for me to pay, so I got a HUGE bargain on this bag! You can say that I am SUPER DOOPER EXCITED. 🙂

And finally, I found this really adorable teal blazer. For my sorority chapter meetings, we wear business casual each week, so, a blazer is a must.

This week, my total at Goodwill was $18.00!

Again, I am so sorry that this post took me forever to put up, I hope you enjoyed this week’s finds! Check out my post next week!

XOXO,

Danie

Thrifty Thursday!

This week I had a BLAST thrifting at the Goodwill in Akron, Oh! Four of my friends tagged along! This week I was continuing with my Fall themed Thrifty Thursdays! As you can see in the first 3 pictures are the pullovers that I got monogrammed! I talked about them in my last post and I got to pick them up today. We had to rush to the store to pick them up. They closed at 6 and I walked in at 5:56! They turned out so amazing and I cannot wait to wear them.

This week I spent $11 for my 3 items! Tomorrow, I am going to put up a post of how to wear these items with items that you will already have in your closet! But, first the white sweater, I am in love with the detail on this sweater. And, let me tell you, this is the softest sweater I have ever owned. It will be perfect for the rest of this school year, considering that last year it snowed in Kent, Ohio until April ( I sometimes wish I went to school in Florida haha)! This sweater will be perfect with either jeans or leggings, so whatever my little heart pleases that day.

Next, the red shirt! The shirt is made out of a chiffon material, I know it is hard to tell from this picture, but hopefully in my pictures tomorrow you won’t be as hard to. This shirt fit me perfectly. I love when that happens, because that does not happen too often for me!

Finally, I know you are asking me Danie, what were you thinking buying this bedazzled sweater? LET ME JUST TELL YOU… I love this sweater and I love that it was 50% off today, making it $3! It fits me more like a sweater dress. I will show you all tomorrow how it looks on, because I honestly love it!

I cannot wait to show you all how to wear these pieces in tomorrow’s post! Check it out tomorrow! Also, if you already haven’t go like my Facebook page for the most recent updates about DefiningDanie.com!

Hope you all are doing fantastic!

Danie

Thrifty Thursday Is Getting Personal!

DSCF6412 DSCF6414 DSCF6417 DSCF6418 DSCF6420 DSCF6421 DSCF6422

This week while I was thrifting I found these two awesome quarter-zip sweaters! Like I said in my last post, it is already sweater-weather here in Kent, Ohio, so I need as many cute sweaters as possible! I don’t know about all of you but I am a HUGE fan of monograms! I think they are just so cute. Buying monogrammed items on websites such as Marleylilly.com and Etsy.com get really expensive but, if you can thrift the things you want monogrammed it will save you a ton of money!

In Kent, Ohio we have the cutest store downtown called The Dragonfly! They monogram ANYTHING for $5. Yep, you read that correctly, $5!!!! So, I brought my two sweaters to them and picked out my colors for the monograms! I cannot wait to show you all the finished products once I have them. They are going to take a little under a week to be finished, which if you ordered something like this online it could take up to a month to get to you.

My monogram is DMR (My full name is Danie Rylee Minor), and I know a lot of people ask me why the M is in the middle. For a women’s monogram the first initial of your last name is always bigger and set in the middle because it is thought of as the most important name because it is your family name! For the grey sweater I decided to go with a vibrant pink monogram and for the pink sweater I decided to get a gold one that says ΧΩ and underneath of it in white it says Lambda Delta because that is my chapter’s name! I am thrilled about my two sweaters and if you live near Kent, Ohio and are looking for a cute gift for someone, or something cute for yourself you should definitely visit The Dragonfly!

The cost of both of my items including the monogram is $18! For most places online you cannot get anything monogrammed for under $30. So, remember to THRIFT THRIFT THRIFT!

This Week’s Spectacular Thrifty Thursday!

DSCF6378 DSCF6371 DSCF6379 DSCF6381 DSCF6384 DSCF6388 DSCF6389

Yes, I did call it SPECTACULAR. Why, you ask? This is because today I had the chance of finding 2 of the most amazing thrifting hot spots! And, they are only 10 minutes from me in Kent, Oh! The first one I went to was Einsteins Attic and the second one is Overstock Oasis! Let me just tell all of you wonderful people… these two places were LIFE CHANGING for so many reasons. They were basically paradise for any Thrifter. Oo also, my mommy is here this weekend so she had the chance to come thrifting with me. We had a blast.

I will start with the ring that is pictured. It was $4! I love the stones on it and it fits perfectly! My mom actually found it in the store for me! I can see this ring becoming a staple that I’ll always wear. I usually only wear gold rings, but I don’t mind that this one is silver. Also, I bought the cute owl that that you see. It is made with all sea shells (besides the eyes! lol). For those of you who don’t know this… my sorority’s symbol is an owl, so whenever I see cute owl items, it is a MUST that I purchase it! Plus, it looks adorable in my apartment! I also bought the cutest retro red glasses! I am so sad because I forgot to take a picture in them… but, I will post one tomorrow! I am in love with them! I do not even wear glasses, HAHA. They do not have any prescription in them, so I bought them as an accessory. My mom said they make me look 45 years old, but that is TOTALLY fine with me, haha. I will be rockin’ those as often as I can.

After Einsteins Attic, we went to Overstock Oasis, which is conveniently across the street! I was not sure what to expect walking in to this store but let me just tell you, it was like walking into HEAVEN. They had anything a person could wish to buy. Unlike most thrift stores, Overstock Oasis is all brand-new items. Just like the name, all of the products are items that the companies who are sold in the store had extras of. A lot of the the products that they sold there were from Kohl’s, Macy’s, and funny enough, CVS Pharmacy. There I purchased all of the makeup items and the adorable yellow sweater! I believe I spent around $15 dollars in there. If it is hard to tell, the mascara is Rimmel London’s Lash Accelerator, AKA one of my favorite mascaras! That mascara usually runs around $8.00 and I bought it for $3! Then, there is the Maybelline eyeshadow palette! The palette’s name is “Green Garden”. I know this picture is not the best, but the three colors that are in it are an emerald green, a light green and a coral-y pink. I know green does not sound the most appealing, but I promise if green is done right it looks awesome on almost all different eye colors! Would you all like a Tutorial? I can totally post one this week! YAY! That is happening 🙂 Then, the purple eyeliner! This was also only $3! It is such a pretty purple and I cannot wait to rock it on my green eyes!

I cannot wait to show you all the tutorial! Tomorrow, my mom and I are off on another Thrifting trip! We are headed to a cool Thrift store in Toledo, Oh! It is called Thrifty Trendz, have any of you been there? I cannot wait to share what I buy there with you all!

XO,

Danie
